Reflection:

We read Jefferson,Stanton and King, as well as some short articles and rhetorical images on the American Dream this quarter. Challenge, agree with or qualify the major argument in this Vanity Fair article, using any of our texts this quarter as evidence.
Throughout the year so far we have talked and learned so much about the American Dream, and we have giving our opinions on the subject. The major argument is that people see the American Dreams in many ways, it's not just one thing. It's a way of life, and opportunities that people earn. Dr.King had is idea of the American Dream by having equal opportunities because we all are human and should have equal chances to get something in life. Jefferson's version of the American Dream was we are equal to have a chance to earn the three main concepts to be happy, Life,Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Stanton's version of the American was that sure men have this rights but women weren't really involved in any of this documents, so her point is that if men are equal shouldn't that mean women count to.

Columnist Rhetorical Analysis

Weekly we would write a paper on a columnist in orde to understand their style of writing and rhetorical usage to engage their audience. For the first quarter I chosed Maria Elena Salinas.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is a story told by Nick Carraway, who was once Gatsby's neighbor. As the story opens,Nick has just moved from the Midwest to West Egg,Long Island seeking foe his fortune as a bond salesmen.

Jefferson/Stanton Analysis Essay

The declaration opens with a preamble describing the document's necessity in explaining why the colonies have overthrown their ruler and chosen to take their place as a separate nation in the world. That all men are created equal and there are certain unalienable rights that governments should never violate. These rights include the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. When a government fails to protect those rights, it is not only the right, but also the duty of the people to overthrow that government. In its place, the people should establish a government that is designed to protect those rights

Timed write

A timed write is when we write and essay in a certain amount of time given to us. We have done several, but my favorite timed write was "A common life", we had forty-fiveminutes to complete the essay.

Reflection about Quarter 1

What did I learn in Quarter 1 AP Lang? What was the most meaningful unit or assignment we did? What did you gain the most from? What did you wish we had skipped ? What are you looking forward to (or dreading!) in Quarter? What are yourQuarter 2 learning goals?

What I learn so far in Quarter 1 was that there are many types of essays, and various ways to structure an essay. The most meaningful assignment we did so far was about "The American Dream" using Dr.King's "I have a dream speech. I gained more knowledge by writing essays because it helps me develop more writing skills. I really wished that we skipped on working so much on the rhetorical triangle. I'm looking forward for more writing, mainly constructing more and different types of essays. Some of my learning goals are to gain more knowledge on writing, and to prepare for the SAT essays.

Quarter 2

"Their Eyes Were Watching God"

In "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston uses several literary devices to advance her theme of inequality of gender or race. In her novel, Janie Mae Crawford she is a Black female but defies gender stereotypes by insisting on her independence. When Janie moves out of Eatonville her whole changes. She sees life and situations with a different perspective.
